University of Tsukuba Holds Entrance Ceremony for AY2026

The University of Tsukuba held its 2026 entrance ceremony for undergraduate and graduate students, along with students of the Acupuncture and Physical Therapy Teacher Training Program, on April 6 at the University Hall Auditorium. A total of 2,233 undergraduate students, 11 students in the teacher training program, and 2,690 graduate students began a new chapter at the university.

In his address, President NAGATA Kyosuke stated:

Congratulations to all of you on your admission to the University of Tsukuba. On behalf of the entire faculty and staff, I extend my warmest welcome and sincere congratulations. I would also like to offer my heartfelt congratulations to your families and to all those who have supported you.

Addressing the challenges of today's society requires both comprehensive knowledge that spans multiple disciplines and a firm grasp of the fundamental principles within each field. As future leaders, I encourage you to take a global perspective, remain attentive to changes in society, and recognize these challenges as your own.

At this university, you are expected to become pioneers of a new era and to lead society. In a time when the future cannot be envisioned as a simple extension of the past, you must think deeply about what should be done--and act upon it.

I encourage you to make the most of your time here, developing both broad knowledge and deep expertise, so that you may go on to engage with the world and become leaders who will shape the future of humanity and our planet.

He expressed his expectations for the new students.

The ceremony continued with an introduction of university officials and concluded with a welcome performance by the University of Tsukuba Orchestra and Mixed Chorus. They performed the university's student song "Hitachino-no," written and composed by students in 1976, celebrating the new students' future.
